15,808. Barnes, R. C. July 16. Ticket clips and punches. -A " breast punch " is shown, with the case i e - moved, in front elevation in Fig. 4, and section in Fig. 6. The thumb-piece E outside the case is fixed to a sliding bar e, on which a spring e2 acts by means of a link e3. Between two pins on the bar e is the end b10 of a bent lever b9. A pawl b7, which actuates the counting-mechanism, is attached to this lever by means of two screws b12, b13, which pass through a slot in the pawl, so shaped as. to allow freedom of movement in two directions, and a spring b14 tends to retain the pawl in the position shown. The depression of the thumb-piece to clip the ticket causes the pawl b7 to rotate a dial B by means of ratchet-teeth b5. A lever b15 allows a spring pawl b8 to engage temporarily with a second set of ratchet-teeth b6 on the dial when this action takes place, to prevent the dial from moving too far. The dial is mounted on a boss b3, and is pressed by springs bxx x against a disc b2 fixed to the boss. A spring pawl b17 pivoted to the dial B bears against the edge of the disc b8, and in the position shown in Fig. 4 is allowed by a notch b19 in the disc to engage with the teeth c2 of a dial C and to rotate it by one tooth. A pin c5 on the di C rotates a dial D by one tooth in each revolution. Ratchetteeth and pawls prevent the dials fro-n moving too far, and the dials are provided with scales and with fixed pointers attached to their axles, a glazed opening allowing of their inspection. The link e3, hinged at f, passes through a slot in a piece f1, Fig. 7, the end f of which takes into a slot in the punch F. A block f4 on a sliding piece f is pressed by a spring f6 into the path of a projection f7 on the piece f1, thereby locking the punch, until a ticket inserted in the clot 3 presses back the endf of the sliding piece. The punch clips the edge of the ticket, so that it cannot be unlocked by a clipped ticket without punching the ticket in a fresh place. The pieces punched out fall into a receptacle A3. At the back of the sliding bar E is a spring pivoted pawl, which acts upon a nose in its downward movement and draws back the hammer arm, a spring causing the hammer to, strike the bell when released. The back of the case may be closed by a sliding door which engages with the flanged edge of the casing, and is held in place by a bolt engaging with a spring projection carried by the casing. An opening is formed in the door for enabling a suitable implement to be introduced for displacing the spring projection, and a piece of paper is placed beneath the opening to detect any tampering with the apparatus. The door may have two headed studs, engaging with keyhole slots in a detachable plate, to which the shoulder straps are attached.
