4152. Hammond, J. E., and Aslatt, F. Feb. 19. Automatic instruments.-The strikers or fingers b of a mechanical piano-player are preferably cylindrical, and made of, or tipped with, indiarubber. The rubber may be solid, or may contain an air-space c, and some lateral play is given to the strikers. Fig. 1 shows a solid rubber striker, and Fig. 2 a similar one having an air-space c. Figs. 3 and 3B show strikers with hollow and solid rubber caps cemented on to them respectively, and Fig. 5 shows a hollow rubber cap adapted to a lever striker. The carrying-rods a may be fixed to their strikers b by screwing or otherwise.
