Coating surfaces, compositions for.-Relates to the manufacture of opaque layers by the evaporation of certain solutions of pyroxyline, collodion cotton, celluloid, and the like. Methyl alcohol or a mixture of two or more solvents may be used, such as a mixture of acetic ether and methyl alcohol, or of alcohol, ether, and acetic ether. Coloured opaque layers are obtained by adding suitable dye-stuffs or pigments, and three practical methods of obtaining the layers are specified. The layers are suitable for covering glass, wood, paper, and the like, and especially for covering the black paper used for wrappers for photographic roll films.
