14,209. Cooper, C. H. June 23. Indexing.-Tabs in the form of semicircles are attached to the edges of cards, to facilitate reference &c. The tabs are divided in Fig. 1 into thirty spaces by means of radii and concentric circles. The illustration given of their use is to index for five years the occurrence of twelve diseases in a number of houses. Each house is represented by a card to which the tab is attached. Each year is represented on the tab by a space between two concentric semicircles and each radial division represents a disease ; by the use of colours, shading, signs, &c., each radial division may represent two or more diseases. To indicate the occurrence of a death from a disease, a small black patch is placed in one corner of the space or on one end of a cross.
