17,566. Green, S. K. Aug. 12. Sifting and separating grain &c. - Relates to means for separating dust and other impurities from chaff, grain, malt, and the like materials. The machine consists of a box 1, Figs. 1 and 4, divided into three longitudinal compartments 8, 9, 9 by partitions 7, and provided with a fan 6, working in the central chamber 8, and almost encircled by a sieve 14. The material to be treated is introduced into the central chamber by way of the feedopening 18, and is thrown against the sieve 14 and at the same time carried round towards a delivery outlet 19, formed in a transverse division board 17. The fan sets up a current of air from the central chamber 8, through openings 10 formed in the partitions 7, along the passages 9, and again to the fan through openings 11. The dust and other impurities drawn through the sieve are deflected to the floor of the chamber by baffle-plates 37, and are discharged through an outlet 34 by wipers 30 fixed on an endless chain 29. which is driven by suitable gearing from the shaft on which the fan is mounted. The cleaned material, thrown out by the fan through the delivery outlet 19, is deflected by an angular board 21 to base outlets 22. In the Provisional Specification, it is stated that in treating malt a feed-brush may be used to remove the combs, and loose particles are drawn into the dust chamber through an air pipe, or a segmental sieve in the form of a series of inclined plates may be used.
