25,313. Eltringham, R. Nov. 21. Valves and valve gear ; pistons for locomotive, marine, and other engines. Steam is admitted to each end of the cylinder by a valve D of any known type, actuated by an ordinary link motion. Exhaust takes place through a central port C, under the control of the piston, which is equal in length to the stroke less the width of the port C, and has two heads connected by a sleeve K. In the heads are valves L, M, one of each pair being open when the other is closed. As shown, the right-hand end of the cylinder has just been exhausted by the head J uncovering the port C. White the piston moves to the right, the steam holds the valves L closed and the valves M open, so that the right-hand end of the cylinder still communicates with the exhaust.
