Rope grips.-Relates to rope or cable grips for haulage purposes, particularly to those employed with wire ropes, and consists in providing lugs so that the grip is positively released when the lever is in the ' off ' position, in addition to the lugs and cams provided for effecting the closing of the grip. Figs. 1 and 4 show the grip arranged for underload haulage. A pair of cheeks a, b with jaws c are connected somewhat freely by a bolt d, and are arranged to receive the hook f. An operating- lever h, Fig. 7, is placed between the cheeks, and the boss of the lever projects through one of the cheeks a. A bolt passes through the cheek band the boss of the lever, and is secured by a nut n. Lugs i on the lever boss are adapted to engage with the inclined surfaces j and close the grip. A second inclined surface p formed on the cheek a and an additional lug q on the boss of the lever serve to force the grip apart when the lever is in the ' off ' position. A suitable locking-device such as a pawl is used. In a modification, the grip is adapted for overload haulage. A vertical shank is used in place of the hook f, and the lever h is preferably outside. Fig. 11 shows a known type of grip in which the cheeks are forced together by lugs i engaging cams j. Two additional opening lugs q are provided on the boss of the lever, and two additional opening-camsp on the cheeks.
