2948. Schou, C. V. Feb. 13. Emulsions, making.-To reduce to a finely - divided state the fat globules in milk or like liquids, the milk &c. is forced through a slit or passage formed by the sides of a hole and a core closely fitting therein. The core f, Fig. 1, fitting in the opening in the partition d, is held in position by the rod g and the spring o. Milk &c. is forced in through the opening b and passes between the core and the opening into the chamber k, escaping by the pipe m. The form of the core is shown in Fig. 3; it is provided with a shoulder p bearing against the partition d, and is formed cylindrical to the dotted line q, the core and hole being then tapered as shown. The core and partition are made of hard steel, platinum-iridium, or agate &c. The rod g is made with a rounded end resting against a piece separated from the end of the core by a piece of india-rubber as shown in Fig. 1. In a modification, shown in Fig. 5, the core t is made tubular and a second core x of similar construction fits into it and is fixed longitudinally by keys y. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 8, the core is formed with two cylindrical surfaces of different sizes working in two partitions, and the milk &c. is admitted between them.
