Lifting- dogs. -Relates to ingot-manipulating apparatus and consists of means for gripping ingot moulds and for ejecting ingots therefrom and inserting the same into soaking-pits. Two pairs of transversely-situated jaws are employed-one for retaining the mould when the ingot is ejected therefrom and the other for placing the ingots in, or withdrawing them from, the soaking-pits. Extending downwards from the crane pulley are two U-shaped pieces a of iron, provided with side plates b having slots c in which the ingot-holding jaws d engage, the latter being operated by chains f. The jaws d are pivoted to a frame g sliding on the pieces a. The mould-retaining jaws h, which work between the pieces a perpendicularly to the jaws d, are pivoted to two metal plates l kept the correct distance apart by bolts m, and are actuated by projections o and recesses p on the plunger i engaging short levers q on the jaws h. The jaws h engage projections n on the mould while the ingot is ejected therefrom. The plunger i draws up the jaws h during operation of the jaws d.
