10,367. Beal, S., [trading as Deane, E.]. May 17. Actuating lift valves.-Relates to mixing-valves for shower-baths and the like. Hot and cold water are admitted by pipes A1, A and valves G1, G, respectively, the mixture passing away by the pipe H. The handle B, Fig. 4, is mounted on a lever bearing tappets E, E1. The tappet E engages the valve-rod F when the handle is moved to the position 2, Fig. 4, and a cold douche passes out through the valve G. On the handle being moved to the left, the valve G1 is opened, and then, by the action of the lever J, which is hinged at K and engages both valve rods, the valve G. The neck of the valve G1 tapers so that more hot water enters as the valve is raised. Cold water is thus admitted with the hot and prevents scalding. A valve M admits water to a tipping vessel N pivoted at P and bearing a pin R which engages a bar Q, Fig. 4. When the vessel tips, the bar Q descends, the valves close, and the handle returns to the normal position at 1. The same effect may be obtained by tipping the vessel by depressing a pin U attached to it. Specifications No. 10,352, A.D. 1891, No. 8112, A.D. 1898, and No. 8192, A.D. 1904, are referred to.
