A New or Improved Method for the Preparation of Moulds for Moulding Hollow Articles with Bulged or Swelled Walls.

Moulding.-Jars and like vessels with bulged or swelled walls are moulded in pairs mouth to mouth, using cores connected by centre pieces which secure them in the moulds without core plates. The moulds are formed in two parts C, C', Fig. 5, by use of a pattern plate on which are mounted a number of half-patterns arranged one on each side of patterns for the core centre pieces J. The core is formed of sand in a two-part box, the lower box being rammed, a strengthening-piece inserted, a false ring placed on for the reception of the sand for the upper part and then removed, and the upper box pressed into position. The centre piece J is of larger diameter than the core parts at the mouth, and may have a central metallic body instead of being entirely of sand. In this case the metal part is of smaller diameter than the core parts at the mouth. Fig. 8 shows a hollow pattern with spring-controlled, cam-operated plungers for moulding legs.
