19,887. Bagar, F. Oct. 2. Capsuling.-Disks of paraffined chip wood, or thin metal, used to seal milk &c. bottles or the like, are forced into the bottles by means of a rubber pad 10, Figs. 1, 3, and 8, and are expanded into internal grooves in the necks by means of spring jaws 12 attached to a sleeve 8, which is rotated by gearing from a power or hand driven shaft 3. The neck a is formed with a shoulder a2, and with a groove adapted to receive a plain disk k, Fig. 1, or with a larger groove for receiving a disk k1, Fig. 3, with a turned-up edge. When the disk is being forced into the mouth, the jaws 12 are pressed inwards by means of a ring 15 through which the jaws pass, the ring 15 being provided with a collar 16, which is depressed down the sleeve 8 by means of a spring-controlled lever 20 operated by hand or foot. The jaws pass through a ring 14 on the sleeve 8, so that power is applied to them near their operating parts. As the disk, Fig. 1, is depressed, it buckles around the edges, and then, when the arms 12 are released by means of the lever 20, they force the disk into the groove. The disk k1, Fig. 3, is acted on by two kinds of tools 12 simultaneously. The tool 12111 forces the flange of the disk into the groove, and the tool 1211 presses the upper margin of the flange against the upper shoulder of the groove. The periphery of the tools 12 may be formed with V-shaped recesses, to press the disk against a shoulder on the neck, shaped to fit the recesses of the tools. The sleeve 8 is kept in place on the spindle 6 by a nut 9. The tools 12 may be oscillated instead of rotated. The disks may also be inserted by a hand-tool, Fig. 11, comprising hinged arms 24, 25 kept apart by a spring 31, and formed with rollers 30 shaped so as fit the groove of the bottle neck. The arms 24, 25 are compressed, when the device is introduced into the bottle.
