Cards, wire; carding-engines.-The spaces between the rings of cards of ring doffers are filled by rings or hoops of wood, tin, compressed paper, or like cheap material joined to the cylinder by pegging or by means of a dovetailed joint suitably cemented. The backs of the cards may meet as shown in Fig. 1, or may be made narrower as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. In the latter case, the rings or hoops may be recessed as at C to receive the small projections F of the cards.
