Atmospheric gas burners.-The gas and air supply orifices of gas burners used for heating hand-irons or ironing-machines, or laundry, or cleaning or dyeing apparatus, are made knifeedged. The orifice k, Fig. 2, of the gas supply of an atmospheric burner is controlled by a needle valve h, which is provided with a collar or pin to limit its outward motion. Gas is admitted at e and air enters at openings in a chamber a beyond the nozzle. When the gas and air are supplied under pressure by separate pipes, as in Fig. 4, the spindle is provided with two opposite threads of unequal pitch. Air enters at p and passes by way of an annular space q and passage r through the spindle to an inner space o, while gas enters an outer space m by an inlet n. When the spindle is turned, the needle h is withdrawn, and at the same time a part k, which slides on the screwed part of the spindle and is prevented from turning by a pin s fitting in a channelled lug t, also recedes. In a further modification, Fig. 5, gas enters at p and passes through a knife-edged opening in a diaphragm u to an outer space m, and air enters an inner space o by an inlet n.
