Zinc sulphate.- Apparatus for treating crushed ores and metallurgical products with solutions and the subsequent separation of liquids and solids includes a vessel having an outer wall A and an inner wall B forming an annular zigzag space C, in which separating liquors from a pipe E flow upwards, and ores fed through a preferably rotating hopper G pass downwards. The solutions with finer particles and slimes carried by the current overflow into the internal space D, and flow through the pipe B2 to the first vessel J of the first series of separators. Each separator has preferably a central open cylinder K into which the solutions and slimes are delivered, also a discharge opening L for the settled solids and an annular lip M at the top for the. flow of the solution. The sludge flows down the launder P into the next series of separators assisted by wash water or weak solution from a tank S. Clear solutions are thus collected into the receiving tanks R &c. To strengthen the weak solutions in the lower receiving tanks, these are returned to the washing- tanks of the upper series or to the storage tank for re-admission to the chamber C. The fumes from the leaching operation pass into the hood H. A steam jacket F may surround the double-walled vessel. The gangue and insoluble coarser solids are withdrawn from the chamber G through a pipe A2 furnished with a cock or plug. According to the Provisional Specification, means may be provided for introducing hot air into the bottom of the annular space.
