Improvements in Apparatus for Preparing, Dyeing, Scouring, Ageing, Setting, Bleaching, or otherwise Treating with Liquids Pieces, Warps or other Fibrous Material or the like in Cotton, Silk, Worsted, Woollens or the like.
4981. Rhodes, J. March 1. Bleaching; dyeing; washing.-Pieces, warps, &c. of cotton or silk, worsted, woollens, &c. are treated with liquids in one piece or a string of pieces, warps, &c., or as a number of pieces or strings of pieces &c., at the same time, in an apparatus which consists in an arrangement of rollers in a vat or vats, Figs. 1 and 2, in conjunction or not with guides or raddles and divided rollers. The pieces &c. may be repassed through the machine to get any desired or increased effect, and the treatment may consist in ageing, bleaching, dyeing, preparing, scouring, or setting (i.e. preventing tendency to curl), &c. The material to be treated, e.g. two pieces 6a, is passed over a guide-roller 4 on to guiderollers 5 in the first vat 2, arranged, as shown, for treating six pieces &c. simultaneously. One, two, or three pieces or one to six ends of warp may be treated. The material then passes by rollers 5a ... 5f out of the first vat 2, over a guide-roller 4a, and through squeeze-rollers 7 into a second vat 3. It is passed over rollers 8 in the second vat, through squeeze-rollers 9 and, when required, out through " sleeve rollers" 12, as shown at 6b. When an increased effect is wanted, e.g. in the case of two ends of warp 10a, shown separated at 10, the ends are passed in the reverse direction through the " sleeve rollers" 12, over rollers 13, and through squeeze-rollers 14, and are then tied to the same ends entering the first vat 2 so that they pass through the vats two or three times before finally parsing out of the machine at 10b, or through the rollers 12 carrying the pieces at 10c, or being drawn out at 10d. By repeatedly passing the material through the vats, " setting " and ageing are stated to take place. Fig. 2 shows one half of the machine used for warps 10 as well as pieces 6. The ends of warp pass through guides or raddles 16, and, in order that they may be passed through the rollers 12 in the reverse direction to that of the pieces 6, the rollers 12 are divided at 12a. When a pin 17 is removed, a sleeve 18 is rendered loose on its shaft 19 and the halves of the rollers 12 can be driven by means of pulleys 20, 21 in reverse directions.
