As the cistern fills, water rises up the pipe 7 and displaces some of the disinfectant solution, which has been formed by the water left on the surface of the disinfectant 11 after a previous filling, forcing it through holes 10 into a central pipe 8 and thence upon the dished cover 5. The expelled solution n mixes with the water of the cistern and is discharged with it.
