7997. Yates, C. D., and Albrow, A. E. April 3. Electricity, administering ; phonographic apparatus ; casings ; actuating-mechanism.-An apparatus for administering electricity and for automatically operating a phonograph is arranged in the chambers of a casing having external gripping-handles connected to the induction apparatus. After prepayment, the shaft S is rotated, winding up the driving-spring in the casing M. The tongue V1 of a cam V on the shaft simultaneously rocks the lever W, one end of the lever working in the slotted cylinder Z and raising the rod L through the slotted plate BC, Fig. 2, into the chamber above containing the phonograph apparatus. The reproducer B is mounted on a saddle E having a screwthreaded portion I and a projecting arm J, which the spring-controlled bell-crank F1 pivoted to the saddle F is adapted to engage. The rod L raises the lever SS and also the reproducer by engaging the projecting arm J, so that the screw-threaded surfaces 1, H, engage, and the reproducer traverses the screw H as the latter is rotated through gearing O, P, by the driving-spring. At the end of the travel, the bell-crank strikes an adjustable screw CB on a fixed post AB and is thrown over to the other side of the dead-centre, striking the arm J and lowering the reproducer saddle E. The weight WH and cord C2 then return the reproducer to the initial position, when the arm J strikes the lever OG, which rocks the lever OZ, the extremity ZZ of which throws the locking-lever PP into engagement wit h the wheel OP. The rotation of the shaft S also closes the circuit of an induction coil BB by raising a metal ball BA to bridge a gap in a switchplate XX, Fig. 11, and by also raising the plate, which is connected to the sliding core CR of the coil to vary the strength of the current, which is indicated by a pointer IN and a scale. The ball is carried by a cord attached to drums PL on the shaft S and passing round pulleys 1, 2. Coin action; coindischarging mecha. nism; registers.- The coin passing down the shoot MA forces the projecting arm of the lever CC against the lever PP so as to raise the latter from the wheel OP, the coin then resting on a projecting arm of an adjustable lever PO. The shaft S can then be turned, when the coin passes on to the tail of the lever PO, forcing the contact FH against the vibrating contact DV. The shaft is returned by the spring OP1, the coin operating a counter and falling to the money-box.
