9859. Jacoby, H. C. E. April 27. Switches.-Relates to an electric switch for use in organ-blowing or reservoir-filling, and to that type having a wheel rotatable by a rope connected to a float or other movable part of the cistern or bellows. The object is to provide a cam-projection on the rope-wheel, which allows a pivoted arm to insert resistance in the armature circuit in certain positions of the wheel. The wheel b, Fig. 2, is rotatable on a spindle c in the switchboard m, and is connected to the float in the tank or reservoir by a rope a, a counterweight g tending to turn the hub of the wheel in opposition to the rope a. Connected contacts i on a flange h of the wheel bridge a circular ring contact j1 with any of a series of resistance terminals j111. Fig. 1 shows 'the parts in starting position, current passing between segments s, j11, through an arm n pivoted at c11, circuit w, plate j1, contacts i, and resistances such as t. The rope a then pulls the wheel round till the contacts wipe over the segment j11 with no resistance in circuit. At this point, a camprojection q on the wheel is discontinuous, and allows a roller p on the arm n to be pulled by a spring r and fall inwards towards the wheel. The arm n is normally kept from falling inwards by means of a hold-on magnet u, but should the magnet become de-energised by failure of the current, the upper end of the arm inserts resistance t1 before the current is switched on again. To enable the bellows to be pumped up quietly, the resistance t' may, by suitably shaping the Camprojection, be kept in the circuit at all positions of the rope wheel except that in which the bellows are full.
