Disinfecting.- Apparatus for purifying and deodorizing air from sewers, septic tanks, and the like, especially suitable for the system of ventilation described in Specification No. 20,219, A.D. 1900, comprises a chamber a containing a fan h which delivers the air by a pipe i into a chamber c, the ceiling of which is formed by a filter d of wetted coke or the like arranged on a floor of expanded metal or the like. The filter d is kept uniformly wetted by a rotary sprinkler e or by steam or water jets impinging on suitably-arranged plates, and the liquid from the filter is drained off from the floor of the chamber c by a trapped outlet pipe k and flows into a gully trap l. The chamber c is provided with a man-hole m, and access is given to the fan chamber by a door. In a modification, the filter is vertical or inclined and forms an end wall to the chamber c, from which the air passes by a shaft to the atmosphere.
