12,524. Read, H. G. May 30. Motor road vehicles. - Relates to machines for treating roads and pathways with tar. Fig. 1 shows a steampropelled machine. The frame 1, placed above a travelling roller reservoir 2 and wheels 3, carries a steamengine 4, sand hopper 5, feed-water tank 6, steam generator 7, and distributor 8, the last of which is fitted with an injector 10 and is moved and sustained by a chain 9. An exhaust pipe 16 is carried to the hollow axis of the reservoir 2, and the exhaust steam escapes from this axis by pipes coiled in the reservoir 2, and thence through the tank 6 to the atmosphere. A type of the machine adapted for use with an existing tractor is described. The fore-carriage and wheels are removed, the machine is coupled to the tractor, and the pipes for pressure and heat are respectively flexibly connected to the sources of pressure and exhaust on the tractor.
