Distributing; regulating. -The fly - wheelauxiliary machines E, used for equalizing the load on generators A supplying current to a fluctuating load, are provided with a field winding F in series with the generator A and having a resistance G in parallel therewith, the resistance G being automatically controlled either by the variation of the generator current or by the variation of the speed of the auxiliary machine E. The variation of the resistance G may be effected by means of a series solenoid S' acting upon a lever H, the current in the field F being decreased when the machine E is acting as a motor, and being increased when it is acting as a generator. The solenoid S1 may be balanced against a shunt solenoid S2, or against a spring or weight. A less powerful. solenoid may be used to control the circuit of one or more electro-magnets adapted to operate the switch H through ratchets and pawls or other similar device. The variation of the resistance G by changes in the speed of the machine E may be effected by a centrifugal governor or a similar device. The auxiliary machine E may have an additional series winding E' and a shunt winding E2 provided with a regulator E3. The field winding F may be excited by a small exciter the field of which is controlled as above. Specification No. 22,654, A.D. 1905, is referred to.
