Codes.-A dial form of adding-machine is described for use in checking telegraphic figure codes and the like, more particularly of the kind in which consonants and vowels alternate in permissible combinations and 100 different units formed of a consonant followed by a vowel are employed, each represented by its own number. The numbers corresponding to the several units of a word are then added together, and the resulting number, or the last two figures thereof, corresponds to an additional unit which is suffixed to the word. For this purpose a recessed circular bed-plate a carries the circular disk b loose upon it, and both are graduated with the series of numbers and letterpairs, but in opposite directions. The disk is turned by means of the central knob d to bring any required pair of numbers opposite one another, and when the loose arm f is brought against the fixed zero pin h, the sum may be read in the window g.
