Drain and sewer, pipes; gully traps.-Pipes for drains and sewers have approximately flat and parallel sides so that, after a given flow has been reached, any addition increases the depth and scouring effect without materially increasing the upper surface. The form preferred is a semicylindrical crown and invert with flat sides, shown in cross-section in Fig. 5. A trap, Figs. 7 and 8, for use with these pipes, has branches of the same section, but the lower part of the trap, where the seal is formed, is horizontally disposed, as shown.
