An Elevating Step, or Collapsable Step or Seat, for Motor Cars and other Vehicles that Carry Luggage on Roof

Footboards; seats &c., arrangement of.-A collapsible step or seat to be secured to the footboard or other part of motor road vehicles, for the purpose of facilitating access to the roof for the removal of luggage, comprises flat iron members 1,2, 3, 4 pivoted together at 5 and provided with stops 7. The members 3 are pivoted at 8 to base members 9 secured to the footboard &c., and the members 1 to the seat 13 at 11. When in their extended position, the members 2, 4 engage, by means of cross-bars 14, with lugs 15 on the ends of the base members 9 and the seat 13 respectively. A second step 6 may or may not be provided. In the latter case, the joints of the members are a small distance from the centre pivot 5, to allow the members to swing clear of each other. In this case also a back rest may be pivoted to the lugs 11.
