10,925. Haas, E. May 10. Sale apparatus ; actuating-mechanism ; delivery mechanism.-Relates to stamp delivering and affixing machines of the type in which the stamps are passed by means of a plungeroperated feed over a hinged feed-table, a damping-device, and a knife, and are cut off and affixed by the action of the plunger. The frame b carrying the mechanism is pivotally mounted on a base a, and is provided with a tube f, in which works the plunger h against the action of a spring l, and also with brackets m, which carry bobbins &c. for the stamp-strips o. A grooved feed-table held in an horizontal position by springs s, is pivoted at q, and a damping-roller w, carried by an arm y, also hinged at q, protrudes through an opening in the forward part of the feed-table. Below the feed table is a removable reservoir 56 divided into communicating compartments, one containing water and the other a sponge, and the damping-roller may be pressed against the sponge by giving a half turn to an eccentric z carried by a shaft x mounted on the feed-table. A spring-controlled rod 11 slides in lugs 9, 10 in the tube f, and is secured to a head 13, to which are fulcrumed arms 14 tied by a spring 15. The extremities of these arms are furnished with rollers 16, 17, extending backwards to a fixed knife 5, which is serrated as shown in Fig. 6. The forward part of the table is provided with a ledge 8, into which takes the cranked ends 10x of the rollers 16. The stamp-strips feed-device comprises a slide 25 working on a rod 26, and is operated by an arm 30 with an adjustable collar 31 and telescoping in a tube 32 hinged to the plunger h. The slide 25 has a socket 34, in which slides a rod 35 carrying a feed-foot 36, and the rod 35 has a transverse pin 3 8 carrying rollers 37, which rest on the inclined parts 49 of the cam-surfaces 47 formed on levers 46 pivoted to the frame b. When the plunger is depressed, the stamp-strip having been previously fed forward the correct amount and resting on the collars 16, 17, the slide 25 begins to move rearwards and the rollers 37 mount the inclines 47, thus raising the feed-foot from the stamp-strip. The edge of the presser-foot 22 co-operates with the knife 5 to tear off the stamp, the strip being prevented from any forward feed by the presser-foot. The feed-table is rocked downwards, and the arms 14 are moved apart to allow the passage of the presser-foot carrying the stamp, by means of studs 19 on a T-piece 20 adjustably secured to the lug 9. The letter to be stamped is placed on a rubber pad 60, and is removed during the up-stroke by a roller 61 having a one-way clutch and operated by a cord attached to a rod h. At the end of the up-stroke of the plunger, a roller 42, carried by the feed-foot 36, rests on a block 52, which may be adjusted by a screw so that pins 40 are correctly positioned relatively to the perforations in the stamp-strip. The apparatus may be made coinfreed, the plunger h is then operated by a lever 76, Fig. 10, normally locked by a lever 77, which is released by an arm 78 actuated by the coin. To prevent the feeding of the stamp-strip until the hand-lever is depressed, a bell-crank lever 82, Fig. 12, normally locks the slide 25, and is moved aside by a stud 85 pressing back a pawl 84. The feed-foot may also be raised by a bell-crank lever instead of the pivoted member 47. By dispensing with the damping-device, the apparatus may be used merely to deliver stamps.
