Improvements in Rail-seats and Braces for Railroad Rails.

Chairs sleepers.-Railroad rails are carried in chair-plates 16, Fig. 2, and are secured therein by means of a resilient brace-plate 19 adapted to engage the rail flange and a shoulder 18 on the chair-plate. Securing-bolts 14 pass through holes in the brace-plate, chair-plate, and hollow metal sleeper 12. The shoulder 18 may be formed separately and may be secured to the chair-plate by bolts so as also to clamp the end of the braceplate. Hand-holes 15 are formed in the sides of the sleepers to facilitate the placing of the bolts in position. Fig. 9 shows a chair-plate suitable for use at switches &c. where there are two converging tracks, and Fig. 8 shows an end view of the sleeper used with the chair-plates.
