21,529. Robinson, C. J. March 5, 1908. Sawing; moulding. - In an horizontal roller-feed for circular and band saws and for wood-moulding machines, the roller is mounted in a swing piece hinged on a stationary shaft, which is carried by a bracket on a vertical shaft so as to be swung clear of the machine to permit of hand-feeding and cross - cutting. Into a bracket 6, which is bolted to the machine frame, is secured a vertical shaft 7 which serves as a pivot for a bracket 8. The bracket 8 carries a shaft 9 provided with a feed cone pulley 10 and forming a hinge for a swing piece 12, which carries the shaft 13 for the feed-roller 15. A pinion 11 on the shaft 9 gears with a spur-wheel 14 on the shaft 13, the direction of rotation also holding the roller on the timber. The feed-roller is further held down by a weighted lever 16. To adjust the position of the roller to suit the thickness of timber, a screw 18 engages a nut 20 carried by projections 19 on the swing piece. The screw is mounted in pivots 22 on the bracket 8, which is vertically adjustable on the shaft 7. A friction roller 24 may be mounted in adjustable bearings under the feedroller, or the roller 24 may be driven by chain gearing, the chain passing over wheels on the shaft 13 and a shaft held in a weighted lever which presses the chain against a wheel on the shaft of the roller 24. Two feed-motions, one at each side of the saw &o., may be geared together.
