Metallurgical furnaces.-In a shaft used for the reduction of iron, a pulverized charge is fed by a screw conveyer 6 on to a rotating disk 9 and is thrown towards the walls by means of vanes 10 arranged at rightangles on a vertical axle 7. The shaft is heated externally by gases which enter a brickwork jacket 2 at an open ing 3 and escape by an exit 4.
