In machines for stamping the time on a card in successive positions, the card being positioned against a stop by a shoulder cut on the card at the preceding operation, the cutter is formed with a tapered projection e for accurately justifying the card before cutting. The card is primarily provided with a sloping shouldered notch as shown at k, so as to be correctly set at the first operation.
