Fenders; hearths.-A curb, Fig. 3, of invertedtrough shape in section, is formed from a single sheet of metal, in a press or by stamping between dies, in such a manner as to avoid the need for riveting, brazing, &c., and the occurrence of slits cr unjointed portions at the angles or elsewhere ; a curb and a hearth plate, Fig. 5, may be formed together in a similar manner. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, a flange b is formed with the curb, the hearth plate, which is made separately, resting upon or being riveted or otherwise attached to the flange. The curb may be in the form of a semioval or semi-ellipse, or of other shape, and its transverse section may vary along the length of the curb. The curb and hearth plate are preferably enamelled, the latter preferably in representation of a tiled hearth.
