Formins are produced in a pure state by directly heating glycerine with formic acid, mono-, di-, or tri-formin resulting, according to the proportions in which the reacting substances are present. The excess of formic acid, which is always present and acts as a condensing-agent, may, together with the water of condensation that it absorbs, be distilled from the apparatus, the formin remaining behind.
