Bone, horn, or ivory, other than cow or buffalo horn, after the mineral salts have been removed, is saturated with glycerine or with animal or vegetable oil. It is then shaped in heated dies, and is subsequently treated with formaldehyde. Articles so prepared may be bleached or dyed, and take a high polish. Stag or buck horn may be treated superficialhy as above described, for the purpose of figuring the surface. Specifications No. 12,599, A.D. 1898, and Nos. 1142 and 6402, A.D. 1899, are referred to.
