Mine-cage fittings.-The ends of colliery and like pit cages are closed by means of collapsible gates, adapted to close into a small compass, and to be sustained in the collapsed position by a catch when the cage is employed for raising minerals. The gates comprise a series of horizontal bars d guided in posts a of channel section and connected by jointed links e. The bars d are also preferably of channel section and form guides for pins carried by the links e. The gate is kept in the collapsed position by the engagement of a hook f with a pin on the lowest bar, and the descent of the bars d is limited by the arrangement of pin connexions with the links e. Buffer springs may be provided to reduce the impact when falling, and some or all of the bars d may be provided with rollers running in the channels of the posts a.
