摘要
1615. Belin, E. Jan. 24, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Wireless telegraphy.-In a system of facsimile telegraphy, transmission is effected by causing the slight differences in level of the surface of a photograph, drawing, &c. corresponding to differences in light and shade to actuate, through a stylus which presses on the surface of the picture mounted on a rotating drum, a device whereby the resistance of the transmission circuit is made to vary with the differences of level on the surface of the picture. The receiving - instrument is a mirror galvanometer which projects, according to its deflexion, more or less light through a small hole on to the surface of a drum, which rotates synchronously with the drum at the transmitting- station, and round which is wound a sheet of sensitized paper. The differences in level on the surface of the picture 1, mounted on a drum 2 rotating with a screw motion on a spindle 3, cause the stylus 4 to vibrate. The motions of this stylus cause a contact-piece 7 to move over the contacts of a variable-resistance 8, and thus to.vary the transmissson current by varying the line resistance in manner according to the variation of the surface level of the picture. The receiving-instument is a mirror galvanometer 9, on the mirror 10 of which light is converged from a source 11, the light being reflected from this mirror through a screen 15 of graduated transparency to a lens 121. This is brought to focus on a small hole on a plate 17, behind which a drum 14, round the surface of which is wrapped a sensitized photographic film 13, rotates with a screw motion and synchronously with the transmitter drum. The graduated screen 15 is such that one side of the screen is opaque, and this opacity graduates to transparency at the other side. Thus, depending on the deflexion of the mirror 10, more or less light falls on the transparent side of the screen 15 and is transmitted through the lens 121, whereby the photographic film is more or less acted on according to the deflexion of the galvanometer. According to the Specification in the original form, as open to public inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), the resistancevarying device of the transmitter may be replaced by a simple make-and-break device when line-drawings &c. are being transmitted, and transmission may be effected wirelessly. Further, the graduated screen 15 may be prepared by exposing a photographic plate to light, the intensity of which varies over the surface of the plate, the plate being afterwards developed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
