15,549. Cohn, S. July 22. Incandescent lampmantle sewing-machines.- Relates to machines for sewing the heads of lamp mantles as described in Specifications No. 15,134, A.D. 1901, No. 15,686, A.D. 1904, No. 25. 588, A.D. 1906, and No. 17,044, A.D. 1907, and consists in improved means for crimping the fabric. The tubular fabric x is slipped between the vertical prongs v4, v5 of forks which are pivotally mounted in two parallel rows on the fixed work-table, as shown in Fig. 4. The forks are then rotated together to the positions shown in Fig. 5, thereby crimping the fabric. The needle, i are next passed through the mantle, threaded, and withdrawn as described in Specification No. 17,044, A.D. 1907. The pivoted bases v3 of the forks carry rods v2, sliding in blocks v1, which are pivotally mounted in two rows, parallel with the fork bases, on a sliding plate. This plate is reciprocated to actuate the forks for the crimping of the fabric by a lever operated by a cam on the main shaft of the machine. The cam is shaped to actuate the forks before and after the movements of the needles.
