An Improved Speed Recorder and Odometer for Motor Cars.

Speed indicators; odometers.-In a combined time distance speed recorder and odometer, especially of the type described in Specification No. 3108, A.D. 1891, a clock-driven style arm rotates over a stationary time-graduated dial with which it makes contact upon the completion of each mile. The style arm a' is carried by a sleeve h mounted slidably on the square spindle b1 driven by clockwork (not shown). With the flange i of the sleeve h engages a cam j on one of the spindles k of the odometer train d, whereby upon the completion of each mile the sleeve is moved laterally so as to bring the style c into contact with the dial a1. At the same time, a projection on the plate u, also mounted on the spindle k, actuates the hammer p of a gong. The odometer train is operated by the piston of an air-pump g connected to the arm f1 pivoted at f2 and carrying the pawl f. This pawl is controlled by the spring f and rests against a stop s in the inoperative position. The air-pump g is connected pneumatically with a second pump worked by a crank or the like on the vehicle wheel.
