Waste heat, utilizing.-To recover and utilize the waste heat from brick, pipe, pottery, and other kilns or ovens, the gases are drawn from the kiln A by a steam jet E arranged within the flue C, which communicates with a branch conduit C' and flues D beneath a drying-floor B. A damper F closes communication between the kiln and the flue C during the burning operation. The gases may be conveyed to, and utilized in drying chambers or rooms, and tunnel brick driers, and may be utilized for heating up a newly-set kiln previous to firing, and for heating water for feeding boilers.
