Feb. 28 Signals, marine.-Cartridges containing materials that give a light when brought into contact with water are arranged along a line in connexion with explosive charges so as to become active when the line is encountered by a boat. A suitable cartridge, Fig. 20, consists of a casing A provided with a closing plug d and inserted in the line by means of eyes f, c. When a collision occurs, the plug d is removed and water gets at the material.
