9477. Mitchell, G. A., Mitchell, A. J., and Mitchell, E. E. May 1. Paving-materials.-Relates to a composition such as that described in Specification No. 18,316, A.D. 1906, [Abridgment Class Cements &c.], for making roads &c. The present composition consists of grit or broken stone 30 parts, asphalt 58À75 parts, bitumen 1À25 parts, Portland cement 7À4 parts, asbestos À1 part, soda À5 parts, and cockle-shells or breeze and chalk 2 parts. The bitumen is heated in a cauldron, the asphalt added, and the grit stirred in. The other constituents, previously mixed together, are then added, and the whole is raised to the poiling point and allowed to simmer. The composition may be used at once, or may be allowed to cool and be remelted when required, in which case the grit may be added when the mixture is remelted. The soda may be added last. Flint may be used in place of the grit, and magnesian limestone or dolomite may replace the chalk. In some cases, half a pint of spirits of wine is added to the cauldron containing three quarters of a ton of the composition.
