A Device for Suppressing Parasitic Fluxes in Rotary Converters of the Statorless Type.

Converting alternating and direct currents.-In a rotary converter of the statorless type for transforming single-phase and polyphase alternating currents into continuous currents, and consisting essentially of a synchronously-rotated core wound with coils connected both to slip-rings and to commutators, for example, as described in Specification No. 13,585, A.D. 1906, the stray fluxes are prevented from closing round the air in the vicinity of the core by the application of metallic screens arranged between the coils and the core. The screens tend to reduce the self-induction of the coils undergoing commutation, and thereby to prevent sparking. In one construction, Fig. 2, the core is provided with four screens, of which two screens a, b are cylindrical and two screens c, d are flat annular plates. The screens b, c, d may be combined to form two screens of rectangular cross-section ; or they may be made integral with the lugs for bolting together the core laminµ, Fig. 4. The screens must not constitute a complete circuit concentric with the coil.
