Moulding reinforced concrete articles.-In the manufacture of reinforced concrete articles, means are provided for subjecting the reinforcing-rods to tension before the concrete sets. Reinforcing- members 1 are placed horizontallly with their ends held rigidly, and a load is applied centrally, or distributed as required, and maintained in position until the concrete has hardened. The load consists of the mould 10, which may be a rolled channel-iron girder, and the wet concrete 38, and is hung from the rods 1 by slotted plugs 31, tapered to facilitate removal. Additional loading may be placed in a box 35 slung by straps 36 from the plugs 31. An alternative form of carrier consists of a hook which engages with the rod 1, is provided with a screwed tapered plug for supporting the mould and remains in the article. If desired, the weight may be applied above the article, and carried by struts resting on the reinforcing-bars.
