As shown in Fig. 2 the desk top A is hinged at B and can be adjusted angularly by pawls C which engage teeth D. A glass or like frame E hinged at e and supported vertically by a strut e1 can be folded beneath the desk top A when not in use. A sliding piece F has a series of holes for supporting a vertical standard G. Models are carried by the standard G by means of a clip H, hooks g2, a rod g3, a ring g6, or by a bar having a peg which fixes in holes in the standard. Other models may be supported on the piece F as shown at f1. The frame E is engraved with horizontal and vertical lines to aid in teaching. The frame E is also provided with an adjustable arm L carrying a wire loop l3 serving as an eye-piece. The eyepiece may be carried by a separate support resting on the desk. When not in use, the various parts of the appliance are stored in a receptacle which may rest on the ledge N or be suspended by hooks from the side of the desk. The glass frame and other parts may be applied to existing desks as shown in Fig. 8. The frame E and the extension piece F are in this case hinged to a plate Z secured to the desk, the frame and extension piece being supported when in use by struts e', e7. The frame E may be swung into an horizontal position E2. A protecting-cover E1 is hinged at e3. In a modification, the plate Z, instead of being secured to the desk, is carried by an adjustable standard resting on the ground. In a further modification, the piece F is clamped by bolts to its support instead of being hinged.
