25,248. Pett, F. S. Nov. 24. Cleaning tubes.-A device for cleaning boilertubes consists of a rod having at its end a brush or scraper, adapted to remain in line with the rod for insertion through the tube, and, on emerging at the further end, to be angularly displaced and retained at right-angles to the rod, by which it is then rotated so as to clean the end of the tube and adjacent portion of the tube-plate. The rod a, Fig. 1, is long enough to traverse the tube, and is forked at the end to receive the brush or scraper b having a tail-piece b1 and pivoted at c. While passing through the tube, the brush is kept in line with the rod a by a stop-pin d, but a half-turn allows it to drop to the position shown in Fig. 5, so that tail-piece p, which, in the modification shown, takes the form of a scraper, bears against the tube. The tube is then cleaned by rotating the rod, the tool being removed by reversing the introducing operation. By making the bristles longer, as shown in Fig. 5, the tool may be used for cleaning the interior of the tube. Instead of a tail-piece there may be a second brush, Fig. 6, of different weight to the first, so that they fall into the position shown dotted. In the modificacion shown in Fig. 9, the bristles h are flexible enough to bend back when pushed through the tube by the rod i, which is approximately centred by the boss i1. The disk k is then drawn up by a rod or wire m for cleaning, and is finally pushed bick and the brush withdrawn.
