1756. Whitcombe, G. L., and Cox, A. K. Jan. 25. Stationary - vessel wet - separcating apparatus.- Relates to apparatus of the kind described in Specification 13,366/08, for concentrating ores, metals, &c. in which liquid containing the material to be treated is introduced under pressure to a blade-wheel which sweeps the concentrates over a series of graduated slits while the lighter material and liquid are discharged with the aid of a screw elevator, and consists in providing external means for driving the blade-wheel or other parts. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the wheel f1, the screw elevator h, and the reciprocating plates in the boxes m are all driven by a water-wheel 12 operated by the mixture discharged by the elevator h. In a modification, Fig. 2, the shaft g is divided, the two parts driving respectively the conveyer h and the wheel f1 and being driven by shafts 16, 13 which are independent or connected by gearing. The wheel f1 carries a platform 21 formed with turneddown parts 22, which deliver the light material to the bottom of the elevator h. In some cases, one or more of the blades f may be replaced by rakes, and the blades f may be pivoted or fixed at any desired angle. The elevator may be driven from the exterior and the wheel by the mixture, as in the former apparatus. The reciprocating plates in the boxes m may be dispensed with, one of the side walls of the slit being arranged to reciprocate, and the opposite wall being undercut ; or both walls may reciprocate. When the elevator h and wheel f1 are connected to rotate at the same speed, the lower end of the elevator blade may extend down between two of the blades f.
