Coating-compositions ; impregnating-compositions; compound fabrics and sheet materials.- A material suitable for brake blocks is made by saturating fabrics &c. with a non-vitreous enamel &c., and then heating to about 220‹ C. to harden the enamel. The enamel &c. may consist of resin spirit, rock bitumen, and gum copal, &c. in linseed oil. The fabric may be built up in plies before or after treatment, and the plies may be stitched together or secured by spikes or plugs. A mass of fibrous unwoven material may be treated, and after' being heated, is pressed to any required shape. According to the Provisional Specification, the fabrics &c. may be coated with the enamel &c., and can be rendered supple by treating them again with the enamel and allowing the last coat to dry slowly; and the product may be used for making tyres for vehicles, tent cloths, pneumatic tyres (by. directly vulcanizing indiarubber to it), stair treads, friction clutches, driving-belts, and boot soles and heels.
