Couplings, non-automatic, of the kind in which the coupling-chain is operated by an arm on a cross-shaft which can both turn and slide in slotted brackets under the end of the vehicle. The invention consists in means provided at the outer end of the arm for engaging the end link so that, by a combined rolling and sliding motion of the shaft, the link can be carried over the hook of the adjacent vehicle. Fig. 1 is an end view of a vehicle showing the coupling; Fig. 2 is a side view; Fig. 3 illustrates the end coupling-link; and Fig. 4 shows the form of the end of the projecting arm. The link J has a clip I attached with a protruding horn H. The arm E has a slot F adapted to receive the horn H, and a guard G which engages with the horn H. Engagement is facilitated by the sliding and rotating motion of the shaft A in the slotted brackets B.
