Self-levelling apparatus.-Bunks, couches, &c. for use on board ship are suspended from above in gimbals, the trunnions of which are provided with brakes. The bunk a is suspended from the gimbal frame by rods b. The inner gimbal frame is provided with friction wheels i mounted on the trunnions, and elastic band brakes k, the tension of which may be altered by the springs n and the bolts l. Similar brake apparatus is fitted to the outer gimbal frame. To assist further in maintaining the bunk horizontal, the rods b are provided with springs t as shown.
