Capping.-A device for connecting ropes or cables to their attachments or anchorages, adapted to absorb shock due to abnormal load, comprises an outer sleeve A, Figs. 1 and 2, tapered internally, having an extension and lug a for securing the device to its anchorage, an inner sleeve B, tapered externally, to which an end of the rope is fixed, a compressible non-elastic metal packing, preferably in the form of strips or bars C, arranged between the sleeves. The strips are held in position by means of an intermediate slotted sleeve D. The metal is sufficiently hard to bear the maximum working load, but is deformable in order to absorb shock due to an application of a greater load. The sleeve D may be divided longitudinally to facilitate removal in order to renew the strips.
