Feeding sheets.-Relates to apparatus for printing identification marks on a series of papers &c., and is especially applicable to printing marks on several series of wrappers &c. fed to a machine by different attendants. Fig. 1 shows the device applied to a wrapping-machine fed by four attendants. The wrappers are fed along a trough 2 by a chain, and are passed between an impression pad 14 on the shaft 7, and the spider 16 which bears the printing- surfaces 17, 18, 19, 20 for printing the four series marks. The surfaces 17, 18, 19, 20 are inked by a wheel 22 carrying a spur-wheel 21 differing by one tooth from the wheel 15 from which it is driven, so that a fresh part of the surface comes into operation at each revolution. The spider 16 and the impression roll 14 are geared together and are so proportioned that for every complete revolution of the pad 14 the spider 16 makes three-quarters of a revolution, so that the four surfaces 17, 18, 19, 20 print in succession on four consecutive wrappers. The pad 14 is driven by gearing from a shaft 6 rotated by a sprocket-wheel 10, which engages the lower run of the feed-chain 4. A modification is described for printing on the underside of the wrappers.
